On February 15, ten members met to hear about our upcoming renovation projects to our building hosted by the Building Committee and the Board. Half of the attendees were also donors to the Future Fund whose generous contributions have helped us raise $15,421 in support of these projects.
We reviewed the process to date, starting with the October 2022 Building Condition Assessment and receiving $35,700 in Service Canada Enabling Accessibility funding. Recent site visits have included:
- Staff,
- Building Committee members,
- Board,
- Contractors,
- RJC engineering firm, and
- a Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification consultant who helped define the necessary accessibility features for our main entrance.
Many questions were asked and answered. Excellent accessibility suggestions made by attendees include a handrail and prioritizing a smooth pathway to the front door from the parking area. Right now the uneven parking lot surface is not considered accessible for anyone with a mobility device.
