Report from the GM

Hello Members!

After a much needed break, I’m back!  I have been overwhelmed with all your well wishes and welcomes as I have slowly eased back into my position over the last few weeks. Thank you all for your thoughtful words. They have reminded me how caring the Karma community is.

While I was away, the staff did an incredible job navigating their new leadership roles and keeping things in order. From equipment breakdowns, to sales declines and nonstop staff turnover, they all did an amazing job ensuring the co-op was taken care of. In particular, I am impressed with how Alex Molina quickly stepped up to a role that was above his usual duties and how much care and attention he gave to Karma, not just during my leave, but always. He is missed greatly at Karma and I wish him the very best in his new life on the East Coast.

There were some big changes while I was gone including the addition of two new staff positions. Both the Assistant General Manager and Social Media Coordinator positions were created while I was away and will help to take some of the responsibilities off the GM.  This is welcome news!

Alli Floroff was hired for the AGM position in December. I have worked with Alli in her various roles at Karma over the years, including as Retail Associate and President and am excited to work with her in this new capacity! Oh, the things we will accomplish together!  As well, Amanda Langdon was hired as Karma’s Social Media Coordinator in January. If you’ve been loving the recent posts to our socials, thank Amanda!

Some of you may have noticed all of our Karma Co-op street signs have been removed from both alley entrances and the Palmerston walkway.  Since February 7, our signs have been forcibly removed one by one. We are unsure who or why anyone would target Karma in this way, but we have notified Toronto Police and neighbours in the immediate area. If you know of any information related to any of these incidents, please contact me. Temporary signage will be installed in the coming weeks.

I am looking forward to working with members and staff once again to get the word out about Karma and show Toronto how amazing our co-op is! There are some exciting projects on the horizon including working with a co-op consultant from Columinate Co-op, a big inventory clean up and a very important 50th birthday bash! 🎉

Be well members! I look forward to seeing you around the store.
