Report from the treasurer

Author: Charlie Lior

Hi Karma members.

As many of you may have seen recently, Talia, Alli, and the staff are busy revitalizing the store environment and working on increasing sales. The General Manager’s reports over the last while have shown that our sales are on the decline. The Board, relevant committees, and staff are acting on various initiatives based on member consultation and expert advice.

To provide some background for the next conversation, here is a comparison of store operations for June 2021 to March 2022, fiscal year 2021 and fiscal year 2020.

I am using the format from the audited statements so that comparisons are clear. I used data from our bookkeeper’s regular report and arranged it in the audit format. There are other ways to calculate the percentages in this report, but I chose to use the audit categories for simplicity.

Our basic problem is simple – sales are drastically low. The solution is not so easy. Our expenses are not unreasonable. Management has been reducing wherever possible and working on inventory management.

After an initial boost during the first period of the pandemic, sales started to drop and have continued to drop.

We need all members to be part of the solution. You can start by participating in the next conversation and continuing to shop.

Thanks

Charlie Lior, Treasurer
