Results of the 2022 AGM member survey

Author: Andrea Dawber

The Board has made the decision to host this year’s AGM virtually, based on our experience with a hybrid meeting (virtual plus in-person) test run and the majority of survey respondents preferring to meet virtually. Discussion topics at the AGM are based on respondents’ feedback and Board priorities.

Hybrid meeting test run experience(s): At July’s Board Meeting, the Board tested our ability to successfully host a hybrid meeting with some members joining virtually through a Zoom link and others attending in-person. The hybrid meeting experience was unsatisfactory for both virtual and in-person attendees. Significant background noise, feedback when more than one virtual attendee was unmuted, and poor live streaming connectivity resulted in interrupted discussions and required significant summarizing and repeating of conversations.

Collated results from the 2022 AGM survey are as follows:

Twenty-seven Karma members participated in the survey, providing important feedback about meeting preferences, requested discussion topics, and participation in planning the event. Here is a summary of those results:

52% prefer meeting virtually (most requesting Zoom), 33% prefer meeting in-person, and 15% had no preference.

  • Requested discussion topics for the 2022 AGM are as follows:
  • Membership – attracting new members, membership fees, membership models, membership structure (This most requested member discussion topic is also a Board priority for this year’s AGM)
  • Post-COVID challenges, current finances, low sales, why we are currently not viable

Board vision for each committee Karma’s future; redefining Karma’s raison d’etre or primary purpose And finally:

  • 74% of member respondents plan to attend the AGM
  • 71% of member respondents are willing to help organize the AGM
