Enabling Accessibility at Karma

Project scope modified to match $35k Service Canada grant – installation of automated front door for the Karma Coop Store hoped to be completed by January 2023.

This is a quick update on Karma’s progress to date on making our entrance more accessible. Karma currently has an Enabling Accessibility grant for $35k from Service Canada, which we need to report on by September 2023. The funding agreement is being modified to allow us to simply install an accessible front door with push button openers. The original project included reducing the slopes of the interior and exterior ramps to comply with AODA, which required lowering the entrance doorway by 4 inches so that the compliant ramps did not interfere with the high traffic cash-out areas. However, all four quotes came back far exceeding the grant allocation with $175k being the lowest bid, and so the project scope has been modified to simply install an automated front door. We hope to complete this project by January 2023.
