I came across “At Home in Utopia” quite accidentally one night searching for films about co-ops on Kanopy.org (a free service if you have a Toronto Public Library card). The film tells the story of an originally Jewish communist housing co-op established in the 20s and its storied history through to the 40s. The film does a great job of weaving the personal stories of the still living individuals who grew up there with the broader movements of which they were a part, and is a powerful reminder of how co-ops meet pressing local concerns as they address global ones.
